Sophisticate Interiors teamed up with members of the SF Design Community at the San Francisco Mart to spearhead a pro-bono remodel of the youth recreational rooms at Raphael House, San Francisco’s oldest and most successful homeless shelter.
The seven week renovation project features new floors, new windows, new lightings, paint, furniture, accessories, and an indoor basketball court.
Sophie Azouaou orchestrated the $80,000 redesign at minimal cost to Raphael House, made possible by generous donations from Wanda Spangenberg, Margarita Steinhorst of Alchemy at Home, Occhi Tirta of Occhi and Co, Nancy Rye of Lexington and Fran Wilson of Capel rugs.

Sophie - Thanks for hosting a great *launch* for the Rafael House. I enjoyed meeting staff members, seeing the new and improved
facilities and hearing you speak so passionately about your
project. I must say that the best part was the tour of the teen
room given by Terri De Martini, Director of Raphael House at the
very end of the evening.
I couldn't believe my eyes, the furniture looked fabulous in the
setting. How wonderful that you were able to take an institutional
environment and make it feel like home! Congratulations Sophie on
your hard work & passion in helping families get their lives back
together. How satisfying is that?
Take care -
Roseann Carini, SF Mart General Manager

Sophie brightened up our teen room so that it’s the kind of
relaxing, attractive space you might find in a very nice home. She
used her contacts in the design community who donated wonderful
furnishings that Raphael House never would have been able to afford
otherwise.
In our AfterCare building she added an indoor basketball and
volleyball activity area for the children with new wood flooring,
recessed lighting, new windows and more.
The whole space is reborn and bright now for the children. Sophie is
energetic and fast too. She’s a lot of fun to work with. We really
appreciate all she’s done for us at Raphael House.
